Cancer is a leading cause of death in Maine. Although over the past 20 years the incidence and death due to cancer has declined, Maine’s cancer incidence and death rates remain significantly higher than U.S. rates. One in three Mainers will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and one in five deaths are due to cancer.
The Maine Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (MCCCP) is dedicated to improving cancer outcomes across the community. It focuses on:
- Preventing cancers that can be avoided
- Ensuring everyone receives the right screening at the right time for the best outcomes
- Supporting cancer survivors to live longer, healthier lives
Maine Cancer Plan
The program collaborates with coalition partners statewide to develop and implement the Maine Cancer Plan 2021-2030. MCCCP works with many partners statewide to execute the cancer plan by promoting healthy behaviors, improving access to cancer care including treatment and palliative care, and reducing disparities among groups disproportionately impacted by cancer.
