When you have asthma, your airways can become swollen and narrow, making it more difficult to breathe. Asthma can be managed by visiting your doctor regularly, taking your medications as instructed, and reducing your asthma triggers. Asthma triggers are things in your environment that can irritate your airways and trigger an asthma attack. There are various types of asthma triggers, such as tobacco smoke, respiratory infections, strong scents and fragrances, and allergies.
